Itaú Unibanco recognizes the responsibility that accompanies its economic, social, and cultural importance. Given the magnitude of an operation that impacts millions of people and billions of transactions daily, operational failures or regulatory and contractual debates of all kinds may occur.

Our stance, however, is rigorous: we handle and resolve these issues strictly within the appropriate forums, acting technically in both administrative and judicial spheres, always respecting institutions and complying with court orders.

What underpins our relationship with people is the transparency with which we acknowledge mistakes and the speed with which we act to correct them. This same clarity guides our relationship with the press. We act collaboratively, transparently, and promptly, providing data, reports, spokespeople, and press releases. We do not shy away from responding to the most sensitive, complex, or controversial issues.

We defend freedom of the press, free access to sources, and professional confidentiality, which are fundamental for monitoring institutions and strengthening democracy. This commitment aligns with Article 5 of the Federal Constitution, which protects freedom of information and ensures the right to a proportional response to an offense. However, the freedom to inform demands the responsibility to investigate rigorously.

The profession's codes of ethics impose a commitment to facts, impartiality, and listening to opposing viewpoints. Without this, the public is exposed to one-sided interpretations. We maintained a collaborative relationship with a specific media outlet for years. However, this dynamic changed in mid-April 2026.

Over a 70-day period, 42 articles and approximately 50 social media posts were published containing distorted information and lacking the opportunity for rebuttal that is standard journalistic practice. This persistent coverage distorts data and denies the right to reply within the same channels where the accusations are disseminated, misinforming the market, clients, and investors.

Therefore, exercising a legitimate and constitutional right, we created Factópoles. This space is not dedicated to fact-checking everyday fake news (for that, we have ÉFake ). It is a record of our official positions, restoring balance to the public debate. Here, the data and context that were omitted or disregarded during the original investigation will be available transparently.

The bank respects investigative journalism that points out flaws. The limit we set is that of legality, ethical standards, and balance in public debate. The accuracy of the facts is important to everyone, and from now on, our perspective will be formally recorded here at https://factopoles.itau.com.br
