Brasilia - After clashes with the Federal Audit Court (TCU) and at a time when the Federal Police are deepening their investigations against Banco Master, the mood at the Central Bank is one of some "relief" and a feeling that "the temperature has dropped," according to sources at the monetary authority consulted by NeoFeed .
According to BC (Central Bank) technicians, the meeting between the president of the institution, Gabriel Galípolo, and authorities from the Court of Accounts, such as the president himself, Vital do Rêgo, and the reporting minister, Jhonatan de Jesus, on Monday, January 12th, sought an "institutional de-escalation" between the institutions.
The meeting also sought to stem a potential expansion of a certain movement by the TCU (Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts), led by Jonathan, to question the BC's (Central Bank of Brazil) regulatory action in the Master case.
With the revelation that digital influencers attempted to attack the Central Bank's actions in the case, and also after the rapporteur at the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts) demanded an inspection of the documents of the confidential process underway at the Central Bank to investigate possible irregularities involving Master, there was a feeling in Brasília of political interference in the monetary authority, according to political sources in Brasília.
However, since the Central Bank decided to withdraw its appeals against the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts), the assessment within the monetary authority is that the institutional strain that had been building since the end of last year has eased. "The institutional tension with the Supreme Court and the TCU has been reduced, with the re-establishment of a functional channel," says a source.
The technical team at the Central Bank, which is monitoring the case, believes that Galípolo's actions have also proven "effective" and that, following the meeting with the TCU (Federal Court of Accounts), the monetary authority has been gaining public support.
As positive effects of a possible pacification between the Central Bank and the Court of Auditors, these Central Bank technicians also point out that the monetary authority managed to fully maintain the confidentiality of the information, as determined by the Supreme Federal Court, without any concession or delivery of documentation, for example. And this "reduces the risk of producing new facts or evidentiary elements that could favor Daniel Vorcaro."
In another sign that tensions may have eased in Brasília surrounding the case, a change of stance led Supreme Court Justice Dias Toffoli to authorize the second phase of the Federal Police operation against family members and businessmen linked to Vorcaro on Wednesday, and he also decided to make his decision public.
Last November, however, it came to light that Toffoli had even traveled to Lima, Peru, for the Copa Libertadores final, in a private jet with a lawyer who works on the Master case.
When contacted, the Central Bank said it would not comment on the matter.
