Brasilia - The new crackdown by the Federal Police against alleged irregularities committed by Banco Master and its executives should accelerate pressure on the National Congress for a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) into the case, which seemed unlikely to happen in an election year, and therefore a shorter one.

Former governor of the Federal District, the pro-government federal deputy Rodrigo Rollemberg (PSB-DF) told NeoFeed that he has already obtained a number "well above" the 171 signatures needed to create a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) on the matter. He added that in the coming days he should meet personally with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), to coordinate the establishment of the Commission.

It will be up to Motta to authorize the establishment of any CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) in the Chamber, which could only be established after the end of the parliamentary recess, at the beginning of February.

“A case of this magnitude cannot be covered up. It has very serious consequences, and someone has to be held accountable. I want to commend the Federal Police for today's operation,” says Rollemberg, who is the author of the first of three requests currently being processed in Congress to create a "CPI of Master."

"We know that Daniel Vorcaro has built many relationships in Congress, and there will be a lot of pressure to prevent the establishment of the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry). But on the other hand, pressure from society itself ends up pressuring Congress to give an answer as well."

The congressman's request aims to deepen the investigations into the initial revelations made by the Federal Police, within the scope of the first phase of Operation "Compliance Zero," in November of last year, regarding an alleged fraud scheme estimated at R$ 12 billion involving Master's liquidity and its relationship with BRB, a public bank in Brasília.

However, other investigations related to the case, such as today's, should also fall within the scope of a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) of this kind, explains Rollemberg.

"The biggest issue, at least so far, is still that of BRB. And this deficit cannot be hidden. Either the government will have to cover the deficit, or BRB will have to be privatized or federalized," says the congressman.

In addition to Rollemberg's request for a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), there are also two other similar attempts underway in the Legislature in Brasília during the parliamentary recess, but initiated by opposition congressmen.

A joint parliamentary commission of inquiry (CPMI), composed of members of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, authored by Deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ); and another Senate CPI, proposed by Senator Eduardo Girão (Novo-CE).

Both have recently stated that they have also reached the required number of signatures and are already discussing the possibility of establishing the commissions with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), who is responsible for establishing these CPIs in such cases.
